Accessibility Statement
Our Commitment
We want everyone to be able to use the Avanti Change website and the Avanti Academy, whatever their needs, device or way of learning. This statement covers avantichange.com and Avanti Academy at avantichange.com/academy, including the course player.
We design to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we check accessibility as part of quality control for both the site and the course content.
Using the Website and Avanti Academy
You can:
- zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen, and use Avanti Academy's own text size control
- move around the site and use the course player with a keyboard alone
- use a screen reader: pages have proper headings, landmarks and labels, and the player announces where you are when you move between slides
- turn on your device's reduced motion setting, which we respect
- use the site on a phone or tablet without scrolling sideways
Watching a Course
Each slide is a short narrated video, usually one to two minutes. In the player you can:
- pause, replay, go back 10 seconds, or move to any slide within a module you have unlocked
- turn closed captions on or off; captions are timed to the narration and also shown as text under the video
- open the full transcript for the part you are watching, and download it as a text file
- change the speed from 0.75 to 2 times
- mute the sound, or switch off automatic play of the next slide
- use keyboard shortcuts (Space, the arrow keys, J, C, M and F), and turn the single-key shortcuts off if you use speech recognition software
The player has captions, speed control, a transcript, Read instead, a back 10 seconds button and a seek bar you can use with the keyboard.
Nothing plays until you press Play.
Quick Checks
Each module ends with a five-question quick check. It has no time limit and no pass mark, and works with a keyboard and screen reader.
The End-of-Programme Assessment
The assessment has no time limit, saves your answers as you go, and works with a keyboard and screen reader. If you need a different arrangement, for example another format, tell us and we will make a reasonable adjustment.
Avanti Profiles Questionnaires
Our questionnaires have no time limit, save your answers as you go, and work with a keyboard and screen reader. If you need another format, tell us and we will make a reasonable adjustment.
How the Courses Are Made
About the narration
The voice you hear in Avanti Academy courses is created with AI text-to-speech. It reads scripts that we write ourselves. Every word is ours. Dr. Jonathan Huish and Dr Amanda Milliner write the material, and every script is checked before it is recorded. The AI does not write or change the content, decide what you learn, or assess you. It turns our words into speech. We use a synthetic voice for three reasons: so that every topic is narrated in one clear, consistent British voice; so that we can correct and update a slide quickly, keeping the content current; and so that captions and transcripts match the recording word for word. If you would rather read than listen, every slide has captions and a full transcript you can open or download. If anything in the narration sounds wrong, such as a mispronounced name or place, please tell us and we will fix it.
Our course content is written to be seen, heard and read:
- the narration covers everything shown on each slide, so a learner who cannot see the slide misses nothing
- abbreviations are spelled out the first time they are used, slide fragments are spoken as full sentences, and symbols are spoken in words
- phone numbers are read out digit by digit so they are heard correctly
- one clear, consistent British voice narrates throughout, and the transcript matches the recording word for word
- every slide uses the same template, layout and colours, and carries a footer naming its topic and section, so you always know where you are
- every module follows the same structure: a title slide, the content, applied practice, reflection questions and a reading list
- Modules open in order: view every slide in a module (opening a slide counts; the transcript and Read view are there for anyone who prefers to read), then submit its quick check.
Modules that touch on mental health and suicide follow the Samaritans' guidance on talking about suicide safely, avoid any detail of methods, carry a content note, and give support routes such as Samaritans, NHS 111 and 999.
How We Tested
On 4 October 2026 we checked all 93 pages of the website and Avanti Academy against WCAG 2.2 level AA, at desktop and phone sizes, using automated testing (axe-core). We fixed every issue it found. We also checked that the course player works fully by keyboard.
Automated tools cannot find every problem, and the site has not yet had a full manual audit by an independent specialist or been tested with screen reader users. Until it has, we describe it as designed to meet WCAG 2.2 AA rather than claiming full conformance.
What We Know Is Not Yet Right
- Card payments are taken on a secure page run by Stripe, which has its own accessibility statement. If you would rather not use it, choose pay by invoice at checkout, or contact us.
Other Formats and Feedback
If you need any of our content in a different format, such as a large print or Word transcript, or you find a problem we have not listed, please tell us. Email academy@avantichange.com or use our contact form, and say which page or course it is about. We reply within two working days.
