When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

Partnerships move through trust, not structure charts, and most of them stall. Leading integration comes first, drawing on Chris Huxham and Siv Vangen's collaborative advantage and inertia, comparing leading through structure with leading through relationship, reading the Greater Manchester devolution evaluation and exploring why the third sector should be invited in early. Relational leadership, power and trust follow, with Huxham and Vangen's four themes of aims, power, trust and membership, their trust-building loop, Adam Kahane's ideas of power and love, and the Poverty Truth Commission read as systems leadership, turning the ideas into everyday relational habits.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Explain why relationships are the infrastructure of integration, using Huxham and Vangen's distinction between collaborative advantage and collaborative inertia.
  2. Explain collaborative advantage and collaborative inertia and identify the four themes of aims, power, trust and membership that make collaboration hard.
  3. Compare leading through structure with leading through relationship, and judge what a structural change such as Greater Manchester devolution can and cannot deliver.
  4. Apply the trust-building loop to sequence joint work, starting small and keeping promises before raising the stakes.
  5. Plan how you will lead at place and from the person's journey, including inviting the third sector before the plan is written and acting on what your role asks of you.
  6. Use Kahane's power and love and the Poverty Truth Commission's design to plan how to share power before sharing tasks.
What it covers

The Modules.

1 hour 15 minutes of learning.

  1. 08Leading Integration: Relationships over StructuresStructures can open the door to integrated care, but only people working with trust and shared purpose can walk through it. It explores leading at place, inviting the third sector early, cross-border learning and what integration asks of leaders in each role.38 min
  2. 10Relational Leadership, Power and TrustThe work of a systems leader happens in partnerships, and most partnerships stall. This module draws on Chris Huxham and Siv Vangen's research on collaborative advantage and inertia, their four themes of aims, power, trust and membership, and their trust-building loop, alongside Adam Kahane's ideas of power and love. It reads the Poverty Truth Commission as systems leadership and turns the ideas into everyday relational habits.40 min
