When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

Who It's For
Officers, managers and leaders looking after themselves and their teams through a long period of change
Overview
Change is one of the most reliably destabilising things that can happen to a workforce, and it touches most of the recognised sources of work stress. This half day separates wellbeing, resilience and adaptability, then works through the HSE Management Standards, job demands and resources, the bandwidth tax and burnout. It sets out a working definition of resilience, Coutu's building blocks and the Stockdale Paradox, then the 4 R's, the change curve, Bridges, Seligman's three P's and the HOPE model. It closes with mindfulness, leading others through adversity, adaptability and zero trauma, and why individual resilience is never the whole answer.
Aims
The aim is to develop people who can stay well and stay ready through change, and leaders who create the conditions for others to do the same. It is for anyone carrying a demanding role through a long transition who wants practical, evidence-based ways to recover, adapt and support their team.
In summary, you will be able to:
- Distinguish wellbeing, resilience and adaptability, and identify the sources of work stress that change puts in play for you and your team.
- Use the 4 R's, the change curve, Bridges' transition model and explanatory style to understand and steady your own response to change.
- Create the psychological safety, holding environment and recovery habits that help a team stay well and adapt to what comes next.
What you'll develop
Across this Explore, you will develop the ability to:
- Distinguish wellbeing as a state, resilience as a capacity and adaptability as a skill, and explain why each needs a different intervention.
- Explain why resilience depends on context and distinguish its individual, team and organisational levels.
- Use the 4 R's, the change curve and Bridges' transition model to name and normalise reactions to change, including time spent in the Neutral Zone.
- Explain Edmondson's definition of psychological safety and describe how a leader's response to the first piece of bad news builds or destroys it.
- Distinguish adaptability from resilience and explain why neither can substitute for the other.
- Explain why individual resilience work is incomplete on its own and distinguish Magness's real toughness from the appearance of strength.
