About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Who It's For

Leaders of hybrid teams and cross-sector partnerships

Overview

Culture is now tested in places it was never designed for: hybrid teams, cross-border partnerships and organisations under intense pressure to perform. This programme reads the Agile Manifesto as a set of cultural bets and explores what remote and hybrid working remove, from hallway conversation to belonging. It examines how Volkswagen, Wells Fargo, Theranos and Uber went wrong in the same way and why decent people go along, then uses Erin Meyer's Culture Map and the pressures on councils and the voluntary sector to inform partnership work. A capstone applies the frameworks to NASA, the Ritz-Carlton, a merging council and Basecamp.

Aims

This programme aims to help leaders keep culture deliberate when the conditions around it change, building the judgement to redesign belonging in hybrid teams, read partners across borders and sectors, and hear warning signs from colleagues and partners before small problems compound.

In summary, you will be able to:

  1. Explain how hybrid working, agile methods and cross-border or cross-sector partnership change a culture, including risks such as proximity bias and a two-tier workforce.
  2. Identify the early warning signs shared by major cultural failures, including silence and conformity, and apply practices that help warnings reach leaders sooner.
  3. Use several culture frameworks together to assess your own organisation and plan practical next steps that involve colleagues and are revisited regularly.

What you'll develop

Through this Focus course, you will build the ability to:

  1. Explain why agile is a culture bet rather than a project method, using the cultural assumptions behind the Agile Manifesto.
  2. Identify what remote and hybrid working remove from a culture, including the risks of proximity bias and a two-tier workforce.
  3. Explain the shared shape of the Volkswagen, Wells Fargo, Theranos and Uber failures by using several culture frameworks together.
  4. Identify the early warning signs common to all four cases, including silence, and the psychological reasons decent people go along.
  5. Describe Meyer's eight Culture Map scales and use them to explain friction in cross-national and cross-organisational work.
  6. Apply several culture frameworks together to explain the outcomes at NASA, the Ritz-Carlton, a merging council and Basecamp.
