Overview and Outcomes.
Overview
This module examines why trust grows slowly and falls fast, and how leaders can rebuild it after a mistake. It draws on Mayer, Davis and Schoorman's model of ability, benevolence and integrity, research by Kim and colleagues on apology versus denial, and the three routes to repair set out by Dirks, Lewicki and Zaheer, alongside candour and everyday habits of repair.
What you'll develop
In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:
- Explain how ability, benevolence and integrity underpin trustworthiness, using the model of Mayer, Davis and Schoorman.
- Distinguish competence breaches from integrity breaches and judge how your response should differ for each, drawing on Kim and colleagues.
- Apply the three routes to repair from Dirks, Lewicki and Zaheer, and the habits of a candid response, to a failure in your own work.
