When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

Strategy begins with what residents and staff need, not with the tool. This module builds a layered picture from purpose and outcomes down to governance and trust, compares three strategic postures, and offers a value and feasibility matrix for choosing use cases. It shows how to set out an AI strategy on one page, what boards should ask, and a test, learn, then scale or stop cycle in which stopping a pilot counts as a result. Policy sets the weather, but you choose the route. This module maps UK, Welsh and European AI policy: the 2023 White Paper's five principles, the AI Opportunities Action Plan, the UK government's AI Playbook, the Welsh Government's AI Cymru plan and Workforce Partnership Council guidance, and the EU AI Act. It shows that while there is no single UK AI law, plenty of existing law applies, and accountability stays local.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Explain why an AI strategy should start with the problem and rest on data, people, governance and trust foundations.
  2. Use a value and feasibility matrix and the one-page strategy test to choose use cases and express specific, measurable, owned commitments.
  3. Plan a pilot using the test, learn, then scale or stop cycle, including agreeing stopping criteria in advance.
  4. Describe the main milestones in UK and Welsh AI policy and the distinct Welsh frame of AI Cymru and social partnership.
  5. Compare the UK's sector-led approach with the EU's single AI Act, including the strengths and risks of each.
