Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

This module looks at sponsorship from the side of those who give it, and why sponsorship left to chance follows familiarity. It covers the broken rung and glass cliff, homophily, Ibarra's sponsorship spectrum, Dobbin and Kalev on what works, LeanIn.Org data on senior men stepping back after MeToo, Smith and Johnson's Good Guys, a six-step fair sponsorship design and positive action under section 158 of the Equality Act 2010.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Explain how homophily, the broken rung and the glass cliff mean that sponsorship left to chance can reproduce existing advantage.
  2. Use Ibarra's sponsorship spectrum, Dobbin and Kalev's evidence and Smith and Johnson's allyship practices to sponsor across difference.
  3. Design a fair sponsorship scheme that is open and accountable, distinguishing lawful positive action from positive discrimination.
