When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

Restructures, redundancies, transfers and changes to terms are lawful tools, but they test trust more than almost anything else a manager does. This module covers a fair redundancy step by step, collective consultation and the larger protective award since April 2026, why a proposal is not a decision, the P and O Ferries dismissals through Colquitt's justice dimensions and Rousseau's psychological contract, fire and rehire after Tesco v USDAW, TUPE, and Tata Steel at Port Talbot. Many public services recognise trade unions, and partnership is built before the dispute. This module covers recognition and the union's role, how union law has changed from the Trade Union Act 2016 to the Employment Rights Act 2025, the Welsh social partnership duty, consulting while the answer can still move, conduct during industrial action, the four Gunning principles of fair consultation, and six moves for leading contested change, drawing on justice research.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Plan a fair redundancy process, from business case and consultation through pool, criteria, alternatives, notice and appeal.
  2. Explain when collective consultation duties apply and assess whether consultation is genuine because the outcome can still change.
  3. Explain the law on changing terms, fire and rehire and TUPE, and apply tests of legality, fairness and legitimacy to contested change.
  4. Explain what union recognition means in practice, including collective bargaining, facility time and consultation duties.
  5. Describe the social partnership duty in Wales and distinguish it from the employment law that applies across Great Britain.
