When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Who It's For

Managers and leaders responsible for any stage of the employment relationship

Overview

This full-day programme covers the whole employment relationship in depth, from the first advert to the end of employment. It sets out the layers of employment law, Fair Work Wales and the Employment Rights Act 2025, then works through recruitment, pay, family rights, equality, health and performance. It moves on to discipline, grievance, whistleblowing, dismissal, redundancy, TUPE, trade union partnership and investigations, guided by leading cases from Uber v Aslam to Tesco v USDAW. A capstone draws out five shared threads and presents the employment relationship as one loop.

Aims

The aim is to develop managers and leaders who handle every stage of the employment relationship fairly, firmly and lawfully, treating the law as the floor and fairness as the standard, and making decisions that protect people, reduce risk and sustain trust across the workforce.

In summary, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the main sources and recent changes in employment law and how they apply across the employment relationship in Wales and England.
  2. Apply fair process to recruitment, pay, equality, absence, performance, discipline and grievance decisions, putting support before sanction where possible.
  3. Plan and lead high-stakes change, including dismissal, redundancy and TUPE, with genuine consultation, sound investigation and defensible records.

What you'll develop

By the end of this Immerse, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the four layers of employment law, from statute and case law to Codes of Practice and organisational policy, and explain how firm each one is.
  2. Identify how affinity and confirmation bias shape selection decisions and use structured, evidence-based interviewing to reduce them.
  3. Distinguish direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, discrimination arising from disability, harassment and victimisation, and explain when each can or cannot be justified.
  4. Plan the handling of a grievance in line with the Acas Code, from early listening to a reasoned decision and appeal.
  5. Plan a fair redundancy process, from business case and consultation through pool, criteria, alternatives, notice and appeal.
  6. Explain how Tesco Stores v USDAW shows that a promise in a contract can be enforced, and how the law on fire and rehire is changing.
