When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

When every department keeps its own register, no one sees the whole picture. This module explains what enterprise risk management adds beyond siloed registers, drawing on John Hampton's account of aggregated exposure, cross cutting themes and a common risk language. It works through the five components of the COSO 2017 framework and sets out what genuine implementation requires, so that one organisation has one risk picture. The risks worth worrying about keep changing faster than the frameworks built to manage them. This module explains Nassim Nicholas Taleb's black swan and its three characteristics, uses the 2008 financial crisis to show an industry wide blind spot, and maps the frontier of digital, cyber, climate and geopolitical risk. Drawing on John Hampton, it sets out how to move from a static register to continuous risk sensing.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Explain what enterprise risk management adds that siloed departmental registers cannot see, including aggregated exposure and cross cutting themes.
  2. Describe the five components of the COSO 2017 framework and how they work as one connected system.
  3. Identify the three requirements for genuine implementation: a visible owner, a shared risk taxonomy and regular, honest aggregation.
  4. Explain the three characteristics of a black swan and why such events expose the limits of prediction.
  5. Identify the distinctive features of digital and cyber, climate and geopolitical risk and why each needs an enterprise wide view.
