When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

Who It's For
Leaders governing engagement across public services in Wales and England
Overview
Nothing about us without us is a principle many public bodies endorse and few fully practise. Across a full day, this programme covers the whole territory of engagement and participation: who you serve and why silence is not satisfaction, customer insight and trust, the engagement continuum, lawful consultation and inclusive outreach. It moves through citizens' assemblies, digital engagement and AI, co-design and experience-based co-design, then co-production from Ostrom and Cahn to Welsh law, lived experience leadership and honest evaluation. It ends with leading an engaging organisation and three capstone cases from Blaenau Gwent, Lambeth and Barking and Dagenham.
Aims
This programme aims to develop leaders who can choose, lead and govern the full range of engagement, from informing and consulting to deliberation, co-design and co-production, with the judgement to match involvement to each decision, keep every promise made to people, and build an organisation in which participation shapes what actually happens.
In summary, you will be able to:
- Explain the main models of engagement and participation, from Hirschman and Arnstein to deliberation and co-production, and the legal duties that apply in Wales and England.
- Design engagement for a real decision that reaches seldom heard voices, uses consultation, deliberation, co-design or co-production appropriately and evaluates influence as well as outputs.
- Lead the culture, governance and leadership behaviours that make engagement real, so that your organisation closes the loop and earns legitimacy for hard decisions.
What you'll develop
By the end of this Immerse, you will be able to:
- Distinguish inform, consult, involve, participate, co-design and co-production, and write an honest engagement promise for a piece of work.
- Match a communication approach, from telling to dialogue, to the moment, and assess a standard letter against the five basics of good communication.
- Explain why the seldom heard framing places responsibility on the organisation, and identify the practical, trust, cultural, digital, language and cost barriers to taking part.
- Describe the stages of experience-based co-design, from setting up and gathering staff and patient experience to separate events, a joint event and co-design groups.
- Explain Sandhu's lived, learnt and practice expertise and place your organisation's lived experience roles on the spectrum from feedback to leadership.
- Use the five questions of context, power, method, change and transfer to read any engagement case.
