Overview and Outcomes.
Who It's For
Leaders of teams working across sectors and cultures
Overview
No leader ever moved anything alone, and none leads in a vacuum. This programme shifts attention to the team and the context, drawing on Tuckman, Katzenbach and Smith, Lencioni's five dysfunctions, shared leadership, followership and Whitmore's GROW model. It then explores how leadership must flex across public, private and social sectors, across cultures through Hofstede and the GLOBE study, and across life stage, size and crisis. A compendium of six real leaders, from Nelson Mandela to Paul Polman, applies four questions, diagnose, decide, distribute and sustain, to build judgement for live situations.
Aims
This programme aims to develop leaders who lead with and through others, giving away decisions as well as tasks, building trust, and adapting their approach to sector, culture and circumstance while holding their core values constant wherever they are working.
In summary, you will be able to:
- Diagnose a team's stage and dysfunctions and decide which decisions to share, using Tuckman, Lencioni, shared leadership and situational delegation.
- Assess how sector, culture, organisational life stage and crisis shape good leadership, and choose a mode to match while keeping core values constant.
- Use the four questions of diagnose, decide, distribute and sustain to read real leadership situations, including your own, and select the frameworks that fit.
What you'll develop
Through this Focus course, you will build the ability to:
- Identify a team's developmental stage and diagnose its dysfunctions from the foundation of trust upward, using Tuckman, Katzenbach and Smith, and Lencioni.
- Apply shared leadership, followership and situational delegation to decide which decisions, not just tasks, to give away to your team.
- Compare what private, public and social sector organisations optimise for and explain how that changes the way good leadership is expressed.
- Use Hofstede's dimensions and the GLOBE study to identify which leadership behaviours travel across cultures and which need to adapt.
- Use the four questions of diagnose, decide, distribute and sustain to read a real leadership situation, including your own.
- Identify which established frameworks, such as adaptive leadership, wicked problems, the leader-leader model and the Stockdale Paradox, are doing the work in a specific case.
