When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

Devolution split one shared system into two. This module draws together the England and Wales comparison across sector voice, regulation and funding, with case studies of Community Housing Cymru and the National Housing Federation. It sets out what a national membership body does, how the Regulator of Social Housing and Awaab's Law differ from the Welsh approach, and the two grant routes, ending on one sector with two rulebooks. This capstone brings the whole toolkit together through three applied cases and no new theory. It weighs the trade off between scale and local accountability in housing association mergers, asks what a board's own assurance should have caught in the Rochdale Boroughwide Housing case behind Awaab's Law, and presents extra care housing as a model worth aiming for. It closes with practical steps for your own organisation.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Describe the roles of Community Housing Cymru and the National Housing Federation, including what a national membership body does and does not do.
  2. Compare regulation and grant funding in England and Wales, and identify what is shared and what has diverged since devolution.
  3. Apply a check, do not assume discipline to the regulator, funding route and sector body when working across the border.
  4. Apply the housing toolkit of types, governance, finance and tenant involvement to analyse an unfamiliar case.
  5. Assess the trade off between scale and local accountability in a housing association merger.
