When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

Overview and Outcomes.
Who It's For
Managers, analysts, evaluators and board members in councils, the NHS, housing, police, fire and charities in Wales and England.
Overview
This full-day Immerse covers data from first figure to final decision. It opens with the data journey, collection, quality and reading data honestly, with Deming on variation and the evidence on noise and decision hygiene. It then explores how meaning is made socially, formulas from RAWP to the 2020 A Level algorithm, Goodhart's law and sensemaking with Cynefin. It moves to power in data, collective sensemaking, narrative evidence and evaluation in complexity, then dashboards, public data in Wales and the UK and data ethics. It closes with the Challenger, Horizon, Mid Staffordshire and Covid-19 cases.
Aims
This full-day Immerse aims to develop data-wise leaders who combine technical care with collective sensemaking. It builds the habits of questioning how figures are made, reading data well together, designing measures for learning, weighing stories alongside numbers and keeping people, not formulas, accountable for the decisions data informs.
In summary, you will be able to:
- Question the making, quality and meaning of any figure before acting on it.
- Design measures, dashboards and evaluations that support learning rather than control.
- Lead collective sensemaking that keeps people accountable for data-informed decisions.
What you'll develop
By the end of this Immerse, you will be able to:
- Use the five questions for any number to judge how much weight a figure can bear before you act on it.
- Apply Deming's four tests of accurate, valid, precise and reliable to a figure you use, and identify where it is weakest.
- Distinguish common cause from special cause variation, and explain why reacting to every movement as a signal, which Deming called tampering, makes a stable process worse.
- Apply the six steps of decision hygiene so that a team or board reads data independently before combining views.
- Design a small basket of measures for learning that starts with purpose, pairs numbers with stories and adapts when measures distort behaviour.
- Use the Cynefin domains to judge what data can do in a situation, treating data as feedback rather than proof where things are complex.
- Distinguish attribution from contribution claims, and build a credible contribution story using Mayne's six steps.
- Assess where your organisation stands on technical data capability and collective sensemaking, and plan which of the six habits to strengthen.
