Overview and Outcomes.
Overview
Once a good idea exists, what decides whether it spreads, and whether it overturns the established way of doing things? This module explores Rogers's diffusion of innovations, Moore's chasm, Christensen's disruptive innovation and jobs to be done, and Keeley's Ten Types of Innovation, uses ChatGPT and M-Pesa as contrasting cases, and draws out practical lessons for public and voluntary sector leaders.
What you'll develop
In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:
- Explain Rogers's S curve and five adopter categories, and identify the chasm Moore describes between early adopters and the early majority.
- Distinguish sustaining from disruptive innovation, and apply jobs to be done thinking to a service you are responsible for.
- Use Keeley's Ten Types of Innovation and the ChatGPT and M-Pesa cases to assess how fast an innovation is spreading and how deeply it could disrupt.
