When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview

The test of any framework is whether it explains real organisations making real decisions. This capstone brings no new theory, but examines the Wigan Deal, the LEGO Group turnaround under Jorgen Vig Knudstorp and Buurtzorg's self-managing nursing teams through established models: demands and resources, Coutu's facing down reality, unlearning, zero trauma, Hamel and Valikangas's four challenges and Magness's real toughness. Every resilience approach assumes a body capable of recovering night after night. This module makes that visible, drawing on Matthew Walker on sleep, Bruce McEwen on allostatic load and Stephen Porges's polyvagal theory of three nervous system states, together with co-regulation and the sequence of notice, regulate, then decide. Aetna's wellbeing programme under Mark Bertolini shows the physiology taken seriously at scale.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Explain how established resilience and adaptability frameworks account for the decisions taken by Wigan Council, LEGO and Buurtzorg.
  2. Identify the pattern the three cases share: facing reality honestly, redistributing control, and designing for resilience rather than hoping for it.
  3. Apply the capstone questions on reality, resources, control and design to a live problem in your own organisation.
  4. Explain why sleep underpins resilience and distinguish the acute stress response from allostatic load.
  5. Identify which of Porges's three nervous system states you or a colleague are in, and use simple techniques to regulate before deciding.
