Overview and Outcomes.
Who It's For
Leaders of hybrid, multi-agency and senior leadership teams
Overview
Many teams today are coached, distributed, assembled across organisations or sit at the top of the system. This programme explores team coaching through Hackman and Wageman's timing theory and Peter Hawkins's five disciplines, and team learning through Edmondson, West's reflexivity cycle and the After Action Review. It covers virtual and hybrid teams, from swift trust to a working rhythm, teaming across boundaries in multidisciplinary and multi-agency work, and top teams, from upper echelons theory to Northamptonshire County Council. A capstone reads Everest, Wales at Euro 2016 and the Manchester Arena response through five layers of team development.
Aims
This programme aims to develop leaders who help teams keep improving and work well in complex settings: coaching the team as a whole, building habits of reflection and review, leading across distance and organisational boundaries, and making senior leadership teams genuinely function as teams.
In summary, you will be able to:
- Design team coaching and structured learning reviews, timed to the team's needs and using reflexivity and After Action Review principles.
- Plan how to lead hybrid, distributed and multi-agency teams, including communication rhythms, boundary spanning and swift trust.
- Assess how well a senior leadership team functions as a team and identify the common ways top teams go wrong.
What you'll develop
Through this Focus course, you will build the ability to:
- Distinguish group coaching from team coaching and explain why design comes before coaching.
- Describe Edmondson's team learning behaviours and West's team reflexivity cycle.
- Explain swift trust and how reliable behaviour sustains trust at a distance.
- Explain Edmondson's teaming and its four behaviours, and the three pillars of the team of teams model.
- Distinguish a single-leader unit from real team mode and choose deliberately which an agenda item needs.
- Apply team lenses such as voice, purpose and teaming to a real case, reading it forwards rather than with hindsight.
