When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

Team coaching works with the team as a whole, at the right moments and within its wider system. This module distinguishes group coaching from team coaching, using Clutterbuck's definition, then covers Hackman and Wageman's theory of coaching timing and Peter Hawkins's five disciplines of systemic team coaching. It explores contracting, keeping candour on the work, Pixar's Braintrust and a practical team coaching cycle. Experience alone does not make a team better; teams that stop to think go further. This module covers Amy Edmondson's five team learning behaviours, Michael West's reflexivity cycle, and the evidence from Tannenbaum and Cerasoli and others that structured debriefs and team development work. It examines the US Army's After Action Review, its four questions and principles, and four habits of useful learning reviews.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Distinguish group coaching from team coaching and explain why design comes before coaching.
  2. Match motivational, consultative and educational coaching to the right point in a team's life, and describe Hawkins's five disciplines.
  3. Plan a team coaching contract that clarifies the client, the sponsor, confidentiality and the leader's role.
  4. Describe Edmondson's team learning behaviours and West's team reflexivity cycle.
  5. Explain what the evidence says about debriefs and team development interventions, including its limits.
