When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

Artificial intelligence can now hold a fluent conversation and ask open questions, and coaching bots are already offered to employees. This module calmly reviews the evidence, including Passmore and Tee's definition, studies of coach and client attitudes, an AI coach assessed against ICF competencies, Terblanche's comparison with human coaches and a systematic review, then considers what stays human and how to use and pilot AI safely. This capstone introduces no new theory; it puts the topic's frameworks to work on three real cases. You will read Atul Gawande's experience of being coached by Robert Osteen, Kraft, Blazar and Hogan's meta-analysis of instructional coaching for teachers, and the Youth Endowment Fund's mentoring trial, then draw together four threads: the person holds the answer, the relationship does the work, learning needs reflection, and the system matters.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Distinguish AI as the coach, AI alongside the coach and AI around coaching.
  2. Describe what the research shows AI coaching does well and what remains distinctively human, such as presence and silence.
  3. Plan a safe AI coaching pilot that addresses data, transparency, dependency and referral.
  4. Apply frameworks such as the Inner Game, the working alliance and reflective practice to explain the Gawande and Osteen case.
  5. Assess what the teacher coaching evidence implies about protecting quality when coaching is scaled up.
