When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

Jonathan Passmore has done much to turn coaching into an evidence-based discipline, and his teaching has helped shape Avanti's approach. This module covers his integrative model and four levels of work, motivational interviewing for clients who feel stuck, the APPEAR ethics model developed with Eve Turner, his campaign for rigorous evidence, and his randomised trial of coaching with British Army learner drivers. Mentoring is the older and in some ways richer relative of coaching. This module draws on Kathy Kram's career and psychosocial functions and four phases, David Clutterbuck's sponsorship and developmental models, the roles of mentor and mentee, Terri Scandura's work on dysfunction, formal and informal mentoring and matching, peer, group, distance and political mentoring, and reverse mentoring at General Electric.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Describe the six streams of Passmore's integrative model and work across the four levels of behaviour, thinking, the unconscious and the system.
  2. Use motivational interviewing skills, including OARS and listening for change talk, with someone who feels stuck.
  3. Apply the six stages of the APPEAR model to an ethical dilemma in coaching.
  4. Distinguish Kram's career and psychosocial functions and describe the four phases of a mentoring relationship.
  5. Compare sponsorship and developmental mentoring and explain the responsibilities of mentor and mentee.
