When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

About this course

Overview and Outcomes.

Overview

A good instrument opens a conversation, and every score is a hypothesis. This module covers why coaches use psychometrics, type and trait approaches, the Big Five, reliability, validity, norms and fairness, the Myers Briggs evidence debate, 360 degree feedback, strengths and emotional intelligence tools, and the ethics and competence needed, drawing on Passmore's Psychometrics in Coaching, Pittenger, Barrick and Mount, and Smither. In the UK anyone can call themselves a coach, so protection for clients must come from codes, good practice and supervision. This module covers the Global Code of Ethics and the ICF code, the APPEAR model, confidentiality and its limits, three-way contracting, the manager as coach, the boundary with mental health support and referral, record keeping under UK GDPR, and supervision using Proctor's functions and the seven-eyed model.

What you'll develop

In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:

  1. Compare type and trait approaches and explain why the Big Five has the strongest research base.
  2. Assess an instrument against reliability, validity, norms and fairness.
  3. Plan an ethical feedback conversation that treats every score as a hypothesis and protects consent and data.
  4. Explain the limits of confidentiality and plan how to agree them in advance, including in three-way contracting with a sponsor.
  5. Recognise when a conversation has moved beyond coaching and describe how to raise a concern and refer someone to appropriate support.
