When you step up to a higher level, what you paid in the last 12 months for lower-level courses inside the bigger course comes off its price, in proportion to how much of each is inside it, whichever topic it's from. Courses at the same or a lower level don't give credit against each other. A Focus course or above always costs at least £15. Read the full terms

Overview and Outcomes.
Overview
This module explores what actually moves people to do good work, and why carrots and sticks alone fall short. It works through Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Herzberg's two-factor theory, Vroom's expectancy theory, the candle problem studied by Duncker and Glucksberg, and Daniel Pink's autonomy, mastery and purpose, closing with what a manager can still offer when pay, promotion and certainty are off the table.
What you'll develop
In this Bitesize, you will develop the ability to:
- Explain how Maslow, Herzberg and Vroom each identify a different mechanism behind motivation, and use them to diagnose a specific motivation problem.
- Distinguish tasks where extrinsic rewards help from tasks where they harm performance, using the candle problem and Pink's Type I and Type X behaviour.
- Plan practical ways to motivate your team through purpose, mastery, autonomy and recognition when you cannot promise more pay, promotion or certainty.
